Color WrapCar Stickering
Colour change with proper film and edges that are still down after six months.
The price differs.
The film is not why.
In Indonesia 'skotlet' covers everything from thin roadside sticker film to premium TPU fitted with the panels removed. Because the word is the same, the prices look irrational side by side — when in fact two different jobs are being compared.
The gap comes down to three things: film quality, surface preparation and edge handling.
Film quality
Cheap film is usually thin PVC with aggressive adhesive. It can look fine at first, then within one to two years it hardens, fades and shrinks. On removal the adhesive stays behind and must be dissolved off — slow, and risky for the paint.
Premium TPU is far more elastic, UV stable, and uses adhesive designed to come back off. It costs more to buy and far less to remove — and the paint beneath comes out as it went in.
Surface preparation
Film bonds to whatever is on the surface. If contamination is still there, the film bonds to the contamination rather than the paint — and that is where bubbles and lifted spots begin.
We pre-wash, correct the paint and wash again before any film is opened. None of it shows on day one. It shows in month six.
Edge handling
This is the biggest difference and the first thing sacrificed to hit a price. A fast fit stops the film at the panel edge and heat-seals it down. It looks tidy at handover, then lifts after a few cycles of rain and heat.
We remove bumpers, mirrors and trim and tuck the film behind the panel. The edge is no longer exposed, so it has no starting point.
What to ask any shop
Which film brand and grade, not just which colour. Whether panels come off. Whether paint correction is included. Those three questions explain almost every price gap you will find.
Is skotlet the same as wrapping?
As a product, yes — both are films bonded to the body to change colour. 'Skotlet' is the everyday Indonesian term, 'wrapping' the trade one. What differs is not the name but the film quality and how it is fitted.
How long does it last?
It depends on the material. Cheap film can fade and harden within one to two years, especially on a car always parked outside. Premium TPU film lasts far longer, and that gap matters more than the fitting price.
Can it be removed?
Yes, and that is its advantage over a respray. Properly fitted film comes off without adhesive residue and without harming the paint. Cheap film that has hardened is far harder to remove — often requiring repeated heating and many times the labour.
Can you do part of the car?
Yes. Roof, bonnet, mirrors or side stripes can each be done alone. It is also the cheapest way to try a colour before committing the whole body.
