Film Brands Compared

Xpel, V-Kool, Scuto, Maxdecal, ZEN — what actually differs, and what does not.

Comparison

Compare the specs,
not the names.

Searches about PPF in Indonesia almost always end in a brand comparison. That is natural — brands are the easiest thing to compare. But the brand explains only part of the result, and often not the largest part.

This page sets out what genuinely differs between films, and what does not change whatever the badge says.

Four numbers that actually differ

Thickness. Measured in microns, commonly 150 to 300. Thicker absorbs more impact energy before it reaches the paint — and is harder to lay over complex curves, which is why thick film demands a more experienced installer.

Surface coating formulation. Self-healing is a property of the coating on top, not of the TPU. This is where brands differ most, and it decides whether wash swirls vanish in the sun or stay.

Yellowing resistance. Older films yellow under UV, most visibly on white cars. Modern formulations are far better, but the grade still varies between brands and between tiers within one brand.

Elongation at break. How far the film stretches before tearing. A high figure means it follows sharp creases without thinning at the corner. ZEN PPF sits at 320.3%.

What the brand does not decide

Whether the bumper comes off. Whether the paint is corrected first. Whether the edge is tucked behind the panel or stopped at it. Whether the final inspection is done by the person answerable for the result.

Those four are set by the shop, not the film factory. And those four decide whether your installation still looks right in year three.

We will say this plainly even though we sell film: a mid-grade film fitted properly beats a top-grade film fitted in a hurry. If you are comparing quotes, ask about process first and brand second.

Where ZEN PPF sits

We use ZEN PPF. TPU Basic at 200 microns with High self-healing and anti-yellowing. TPU Hybrid at 215 microns, both rated Super High. All three carry a lifetime installation warranty. TPU+ at 300 microns with self-healing, anti-yellowing and gloss all Extreme, lifetime warranty.

The film is five layers: protective film, coating, TPU, pressure-sensitive adhesive and a PET release liner. Technical data: tensile strength 25.9 MPa, surface gloss 92.5 GU, coating adhesion Level 5.

On colour films

Teckwrap, Inozetek, Spectech, Proteger and Fanchi are colour wrap brands, not paint protection film. We use all five for colour work, chosen by panel geometry and the effect wanted. If protection is the goal, PPF is the relevant category.

Which film does Kitawrapin use?

ZEN PPF, in three tiers: TPU Basic at 200 microns, TPU Hybrid at 215 and TPU+ at 300. Full technical specifications are on the Service & Warranty page.

Does the film brand decide the result?

Partly. The brand sets thickness, elasticity, clarity and how well the surface coating heals. But the best film fitted without removing panels still lifts at the edges, while a mid-grade film fitted properly can see out its warranty.

Why do brands differ so much in price?

Thickness and coating formulation are the largest costs. A 300-micron film uses far more raw material than a 200-micron one, and an Extreme-rated self-healing coating costs more than a standard one.

What is Teckwrap — is it PPF?

Teckwrap is a colour wrap film brand, not paint protection film. We use it for some colour work. If protection is what you are after, PPF is the relevant category, not colour film.
